BHOPAL

: State Congress legislators and leaders who are likely to contest elections in November are checking whether their names remain on the voters' list in their constituencies. In a major revelation, former Congress MLA Yadvendra Singh

Bundela

found out on Sunday that his name is no longer part of the voters' list in his constituency.

Bundela represented the Tikamgarh assembly seat in 1985, 1993 and 2008. He is a front-runner for Congress' ticket from the same constituency for the upcoming assembly elections.

"Twenty days ago, I checked the voters' list after verification was done by the Election Commission. My name was there along with my wife and son's names," Yadvendra Singh said.

"But yesterday, when I looked through the voters' list again - I found my name no longer existed in the list. My family has been deleted from voters' list," he said.

The revelation made all Congress leaders to start checking the electoral rolls in their constituencies. State Congress president Kamal Nath said, "This is a major conspiracy hatched with directions from the ruling BJP. The disappearance of names of Congress' election contenders from the voters' list is a big issue. This is being purposely done so that these candidates are not able to file their nomination."

Shocked by the development, Kamal Nath, who is also MP from Chhindwara said, "I will have to check whether my name still figures in the voters' list. "

Meanwhile, Bundela said he will take up the issue first with the district authorities and thereafter with the EC.

State Congress spokesman JP Dhanopia complained that even after deletion of fake names from the voters' list in Narela constituency in Bhopal, there was still another 11,049 duplicate voters.
