Bhopal: The process of reservation for district panchayat presidents was conducted on Tuesday. The reservation was conducted as per the apex court guideline of reservation for scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and other backward class.
The reservation process for municipality and municipal council was also carried out. There are 99 municipalities and 298 municipal councils in the state. Out of the 99 municipalities, 28 were reserved for OBC. In 298 municipal councils as many as 131 seats were reserved in all categories.Four seats district panchayat presidents were reserved for OBCs. For ST 14 seats were reserved and for SC eight seats were reserved.
There are a total 52 seats in the state for district panchayat president. The post of Bhopal district panchayat president went to the unreserved woman category. The reservation process was held in Bhopal on Tuesday. The reservation process was carried out keeping out seats reserved in the last panchayat elections. Reservation was carried out on 26 seats, as per the maximum reservation limit of 50 per cent.
Post of district panchayat Jhabua, Alirajpur, Mandla, Dindori and Barwani were reserved for scheduled tribes. The reservation in other districts was carried out through lottery. In all categories, 50 per cent seats were reserved for women. The reservation process for panch, sarpanch, district and janpad panchayat members has already been completed.
