Both have received bravery award this year.

In a tweet, the PM said, “Kartik Kumar Goyal and Adrika Goyal from Madhya Pradesh showed courage and social consciousness in providing food, water, and first- aid to panicked train passengers during an adverse situation. I congratulate my brave young friends on winning the Bal Shakti Puraskar!’. Akshat Goyal, father of Adrika and Kartik, said Thursday was a memorable day for them. “I have never thought that one day my kids would make me so much proud. Both Adrika and Kartik were happy after meeting PM Modi,” said Akshat.

Adrika Goyal along with her brother Kartik had displayed immense bravery on April 2, 2018 when the passengers of

were attacked during bandh over SC-ST Atrocity Act in Morena. Seeing the passengers stuck as the protestors did not allow the train to move, the duo, who live nearby, ran to their home to get all that was cooked and then served the passengers food and water, without caring for their lives.

“Our home is just 200m from the Morena station. Both kids wanted to help the passengers. They ran from one coach to other to provide water and food to the passengers. Even we were not aware that they were helping the passengers in a situation when protesters were pelting stones on the train. Soon, their videos and photos went viral on social media. Others also joined us and started helping passengers,” said Akshat. Adrika, 10-year-old, had a major accident in which she had injured her legs severely. Reminiscing about the incident that shook his family four years ago, Akshat said, “A fire accident took place at home when Adrika was just 6-year-old. Her both legs were critically injured. She went into such situation that doctors worried that it could lead to depression in her. To help her get over the trauma, Adrika’s father admitted her to

taekwondo

classes.

“I had to force her several times to continue taekwondo classes. Soon, she started recuperating. She was so much committed that she was awarded a black belt before she turned 8. Adrika has been named in three different world book records for her talent. Marinating pace with her sister, Kartik, too hold a national record for as the youngest sketcher.
