Bhopal: Heavy rainfall that started in Raisen district and adjoining areas on Friday night and continued throughout the night and morning hours throwing normal life out of gear. On Saturday one person was washed away in floods while several roads were inundated and remained cut-off.

Adding to the woes, mobile phone services by state-owned BSNL crashed paralysing communication. Even phones of local officials were not functional.

The wall of a house caved in, at Taake Mohalla of the Raisen town, two persons including a resident named Naeem Khan was seriously injured, said police. Both were rushed to the hospital where Naeem Khan died late in the night. "As of now only one casualty has been reported. We are monitoring the situation and rescue teams are patrolling all vulnerable areas. All field staff have been asked to conduct loss assessment survey," said SDM, Raisen, Varun Awasthi. Four people were trapped in Gauharganj tehsil on Friday night, but they were rescued, later.

Road connectivity of Raisen with Vidisha, Sagar and Bhopal districts was also affected. The connectivity with all the three was snapped at 1.30 am.

Overflowing Betwa river flooded roads connecting the district to Raisen and Vidisha. Similarly, Bina river flowing over Kaula bridge disrupted road connectivity of Raisen with Bhopal and Sagar, however this was resumed on Saturday evening.
