Shah engages with Bagh print artisan Khatri at GIS

Bhopal: Union home minister Amit Shah met Bagh print craftsman Mohammad Arif Khatri at the Global Investors Summit 2025 held in Bhopal and stamped the Bagh print with his own hands on Tuesday. The summit not only highlighted investment opportunities but also showcased India's rich cultural heritage. Various stalls displayed traditional handicrafts, with Bagh printing taking centre stage. The interactive sessions allowed delegates to understand the sustainable practices involved in this eco-friendly printing technique.The Bagh print, a traditional craft from Madhya Pradesh, gained significant international acclaim. At the summit, the demonstration area featured various natural dyes and wooden blocks used in the printing process. The artisans explained how they use copper sulphate, alum, and other natural materials.During the programme, Shah engaged with Arif Khatri, trying his hand at Bagh printing. The Khatri brothers demonstrated the intricacies of their craft to the Shah who expressed sincere appreciation for their work.Arif's 15-year journey in Bagh printing stems from a rich family legacy. "I acquired expertise from my grandfather, Shilpguru Gold Medalist Ismaiin Suleman Khatri, father Abdul Qadir Khatri, and mother Rashida B Khatri," said Khatri.Together with his brothers Mohammad Arif, Hamid, and Mohammad Ali, Arif continues this traditional art whilst incorporating contemporary elements. Their work contributed to industrial growth and artisan development.Arif's achievements include the 2021 Award of Excellence from UNESCO and World Crafts Council. The Khatri family showcased Bagh printing across numerous countries, including America, England, Australia, Germany, France, Japan, Russia, and China, bringing recognition to India and Madhya Pradesh.Their work inspired many young artisans to pursue traditional crafts as viable career options. The family's dedication to quality and authenticity earned them numerous national and international accolades, making Bagh prints a symbol of Indian craftsmanship excellence.
