Singrauli horror: Mother drowns 8-month-old daughter due to continuous crying

BHOPAL: A woman allegedly killed her 8-month-old daughter allegedly annoyed over her incessant cry in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh.

While local media reported that the mother, in a fit of desperation, strangled her to death, police said they are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime and circumstances under which the baby was murdered. It's also alleged that she concealed the body in a sack and threw it into a drain near their residence.

Incident took place on Wednesday in Bargawan village. Police recovered the child's body on Thursday and detained the mother as the prime suspect.

Initially a missing persons complaint was lodged by the girl’s father after his wife reported that the girl was not seen. Ramlala Tiwari, a resident of Bargawan and an employee at a power company, returned home Wednesday evening to find his wife, Madhu Tiwari, distraught. Madhu claimed that she had left the child sleeping in their room while she tended to do laundry in the bathroom, only to return and discover the infant missing.

Ramlala reported the disappearance to the police, expressing concerns of kidnapping. SP Nivedita Gupta assigned SDOP KK Pandey to oversee the investigation. Bargawan Inspector Vidya Varidhi Tiwari and his team searched the area till late hours.

However, as the night wore on and she saw Ramlala crying, Madhu decided to reveal her crime. “When she saw her husband crying for the baby. She revealed that the baby had been murdered. She took her husband to the drain where body was thrown,” said SDOP K K Pandey.

On Thursday morning, Ramlala accompanied her to the police station. Acting on the information provided by Madhu, the police discovered the child's body concealed within a sack in a drain near their home.

“It is clear that the infant died of drowning. We have detained the suspect and she is being questioned for more details” SP Nivedata Gupta told TOI.

Initial investigation revealed that Madhu got annoyed over the relentless crying of her daughter, and killed her.
