Berhampur election results 2024: BJP's Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy triumphs in Berhampur, trouncing Congress's Rasmi Ranjan Patnaik by a staggering 165,476 votes

In the fiercely contested 2024 Berhampur Lok Sabha elections, BJP's stalwart Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy emerged victorious, clinching a resounding win by a margin of 165,476 votes.

This electoral triumph saw him decisively defeating his closest rival, Rasmi Ranjan Patnaik of the Congress party.

Berhampur Lok sabha Constituency once known as the Congress citadel has become a BJD fort. In 1996, former PM PV Narasimha Rao won from here as a Congress candidate. From the year 1952 to 1998 congress maintained its dominance over this seat (Except the by-election held in 1952). It wasn't until 1999 that the BJP party won the seat. The voting for this constituency took place during the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha 2024 elections on May 13, consisting of 7 legislative assemblies. The literacy rate in this Lok Sabha constituency stands at 57.72%.

In this election, the Key candidates from Kalahandi constituencies are Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy from the Bhartiya Janta Party, Rashmi Ranjan Pattnaik from the Indian National Congress, and Bhurgu Baxipatra from Biju Janata Dal.


BJD's Bhurgu Baxipatra switched from BJP, while Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy, joined BJP after being expelled from BJD. While other nine candidates have also filed for the nominations, the competition is said to be likely between Panigrahy and Baxipatra.

The 2019 Lok Sabha elections saw a voter turnout of 65.65%, Chandra Sekhar Sahu of BJD party won with 4,43,145 votes. The runner-up was Bhrugu Baxipatra of the BJP party. The margin of victory was: 95,843 votes.


In the Loksabha elections in 2014, Sidhant Mohapatra of the BJD party won with 3,97,912 votes. The runner-up was Chandra Sekhar Sahu of the INC party. The margin of victory was: 1,27,845 votes.
