Berhampur: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has decided to repair all major roads in silk city before Dussehra.
“Repair work has started with the corporation funds. We have already instructed to the engineers concerned to expedite the work and to ensure completion before Dussehra,” said BeMC mayor Sanghamitra Dalei.
“We have targeted to repair pothole-ridden roads on priority. The civic body will spend funds as per requirement to repair potholes on major roads,” said Manoj Kumar Patra, executive-cum-city engineer, BeMC.
BeMC has also written to the public works department for repair of major roads under national highway authorities and PWD, which pass through the city, Patra said.
Businessmen along with several corporators had earlier appealed to the civic body for the repair of roads before Dussehra as hundreds of people from far-off places, including neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, visit silk city for shopping and to witness
Durga Puja festivities.
Except for a few, the condition of several roads was poor and riddled with potholes, locals claimed.
“Besides repairing of the roads, the civic body needs to install street lights in isolated places before Durga Puja,” said corporator Surendra Moharana.
