Centre advises ILS scientists to research on Japanese Encephalitis virus

BHUBANESWAR: Union science and technology minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Friday visited the

Institute of Life Sciences

(ILS) here and advised scientists and research scholars to do research on

Japanese Encephalitis

virus, which claimed 51 lives in Malkangiri district.

“If the institution shows interest to do research on Japanese Encephalitis, his ministry will provide all support for the research,” said Dr Harsh Vardhan during an interaction with scientists of the institution.

ILS director Dr B P Shaw said the minister has suggested them to carry out research on the virus. “Now we are conducting research on dengue and chickungunya virus. We don’t have problem to do research on another virus,” he added.

The minister encouraged the scientists to come up with translational and applicative research ideas especially on control of cancer and infectious disease like Japanese Encephalitis, dengue and chikungunya which is now a threat to the mankind, he added.
