Record cash seizure

In a groundbreaking development, the Income Tax department has brought to light an unprecedented cash seizure totaling Rs 340 crore in a single operation, marking the largest such incident in Odisha's history. This colossal discovery is intricately linked to a distillery associated with Congress's Dhiraj Sahu, adding a layer of complexity to the unfolding narrative.

2/8

Unprecedented scale

The sheer magnitude of this cash seizure has propelled the coastal state into the spotlight, underscoring the gravity of the situation. This monumental event has not only set a historical precedent but has also raised questions regarding the origins and potential implications of such an extraordinary sum.

Extensive counting operation

The extensive counting operation, a pivotal aspect of this operation, engaged over 50 bank employees from three nationalized banks, including the State Bank of India (SBI). Over the course of a rigorous five-day counting process, utilizing 40 machines, these dedicated individuals meticulously tallied the seized banknotes. Despite facing challenges such as machine breakdowns, the bank personnel exhibited exceptional dedication, working tirelessly through holidays and weekends to ensure the accuracy of the counting process.

SBI branches utilized

The counting took place at State Bank of India (SBI) branches located in Balangir, Titlagarh, and Sambalpur, highlighting the integral involvement of key financial institutions in the operation.

6/8

ED's proactive role

Looking ahead, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is poised to play a proactive role in the aftermath of the Income Tax proceedings. Beyond the immediate cash seizure, the focus will extend to investigating potential connections to money laundering, hawala networks, and scrutinizing cash hoarding activities, especially in the context of the upcoming Odisha elections.

7/8

Congress's official distancing

In response to the situation, the Congress party has officially distanced itself from Dhiraj Sahu's businesses. Jairam Ramesh, a prominent Congress leader, took to social media to emphasize the party's lack of affiliation with the financial dealings of the implicated Member of Parliament.

8/8

Supreme Court-appointed sit oversight

Adding an additional layer of oversight, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court is closely monitoring the Income Tax searches. This underscores the gravity and national importance of the situation, particularly in addressing concerns related to black money. As investigations unfold, the focus will be on unraveling the complexities surrounding this record cash seizure in Odisha, with implications that extend beyond the immediate financial dimensions.

One of the important reasons of corruption in India is mild punishment in the case of economic offense. Media report reveal that currency notes of rupees 2000 denomination are being exchanged in large numbers in Kolkata, unethically. It is to disrepute an important initiative of Union Government to fight corruption. It may be a conspiracy against the BJP Government in Centre. Government must take immediate actions to seize black money specially the Rs. 2000 currency notes for amassing black money.
