Heavy rain likely in interior areas, swollen rivers concern

Bhubaneswar: The IMD forecast on Thursday said rainfall activity would decrease in the state on Friday with issue of heavy rain warning in specific four districts — Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda.This forecast came with the movement of Tuesday’s low pressure system towards Chhattisgarh and its neighbourhood.The other parts of interior Odisha districts continued to receive heavy rain under the influence of the low pressure system in the last 24 hours. At least five places spread over four districts received heavy to very heavy rain of over 100mm during the period. Sinapali in Nuapada district recorded highest 124mm rainfall by morning. Besides, some more places received heavy rain.Similarly, Sundergarh received major 20.6mm rainfall during the day, said IMD rainfall report.With continuation of such rainfall for the third day in interior Odisha and in upper catchments of river Mahanadi, the Hirakud reservoir saw rise in water level again. This prompted the dam authorities to open six sluice gates by evening to release excess water.Heavy rain in the state also led to rise in water level of Daya river in Puri district and inundated its catchments in Kansas block.Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist of regional IMD centre, said state would witness scattered rainfall for three days after Friday.Dwivedi said state for the second day received over 200mm excess rain compared to normal. He said the cumulative rainfall deficit during the season in the state continued to remain normal and reduced further from six to three per cent in three days.Similarly, only three districts now face marginal rain deficit. Of them Nawarangpur saw major 26 per cent deficit followed by Kendrapara (23 per cent) and Kalahandi (20 per cent).

Heavy rain forecast for three days in state

The meteorological department has predicted heavy rain in North and South Chhattisgarh for the next three days, with a yellow alert issued for Jashpur and Raigarh districts. Several other districts in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh have also experienced heavy rainfall, causing disruptions and flood-like situations. In Mumbai, a yellow alert has been issued until September 18, while Thane and Palghar are under an orange alert. However, water stocks in Mumbai's lakes are at 97% capacity, reducing concerns about water shortages.

No heavy rain on Monday, says IMD

Despite the continuous light to moderate rains in parts of Andhra Pradesh, citizens are still flocking to markets to complete their shopping for the upcoming Ganesh festival. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that there is no possibility of heavy rainfall on Monday, although parts of the state may experience light to moderate rainfall. Thunderstorm activity witnessed on Saturday in parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh may continue on Monday as well. However, the festive spirit may be dampened in certain districts that have been receiving rains for the past week.

Heavy rain batters districts of 2 divs

Heavy rainfall has caused havoc in several districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Alirajpur, Dhar, Ratlam, Khandwa, Khargone, Ujjain, and Mandsaur. In Alirajpur, the highest rainfall in 24 hours was recorded at 341mm, while Dhar witnessed 301.3mm of rain in the same duration. The downpour has disrupted normal life, leading to the evacuation of families and the swelling of rivers. The meteorological department has also issued warnings for heavy rainfall in other districts of Vidarbha and parts of Bihar. Delhi-NCR has also experienced sudden heavy rainfall.
