BHUBANESWAR: The downpour on Friday morning dampened the

puja spirit

. It was even difficult for the organizers to give finishing touches to the

pandals

. "We will try to finish the minor works by Saturday noon," said secretary of

Baramunda puja

committee

Narendra Nath Sahu

.

However, rituals to invoke the goddess have started at the pandal. "We have completed all decorations. We hope the inclement weather will not create any problem during the celebrations," said Naba Kishore Sahu of Nayapalli Durga puja committee.

Some puja organizers are not so optimistic. "We have planned a host of programmes, including melody nights, meena bazaar and different food stalls during the five-day long puja. "If rain continues, people will not be able to enjoy the puja," said president of

Rasulgarh Durga puja committee

Pradip Kumar Barisal.

The India Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar, has forecast that the rain will continue till October 9 (Astami) under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. "There will be change in weather from October 10. The sky will become clear after October 12," said director of IMD, Bhubaneswar, Sarat Chandra Sahu.

"The bad weather will spoil the puja mood. None will be able to visit the pandals with their families. "Cloudy sky is not a problem but rain is," said Satya Ranjan Patra, a resident of Patia.
