ANGUL: Former MLA of Gondia in Dhenkanal district was left heartbroken when his 38-year-old son passed away of Covid in 2021, leaving behind a young wife.
Sambit Kumar Nanda, son of the former legislator Nabin Nanda, had married Madhusmita Panda of Kabatabandha area of Jajpur district 10 years back. They have a 5-year-old daughter.
On Tuesday, on National Girl Child Day, Nanda solemnised the re-marriage of his daughter-in-law at a Laxmi temple in Bhubaneswar Nayapalli area in the presence of Madhusmita's father, two brothers and other family members.
Nanda,who was two-time MLA from Gondia and Dhenkanal assembly constituencies, told TOI, "Madhusmita's father first asked me to consider the re-marriage of his daughter. I realised too that life should not stop for somebody so young. So, I encouraged my daughter-in-law to move on and start a new life."
The former legislator added, "I have a granddaughter who is now 5 years old. She will live with us now. We are happy to give away Madhusmita to Shiv Chandra Pati, the 38-year-old son of Kishore Chandra Pati and a resident of Baleshwar Remuna."
The marriage was solemnised on Tuesday. Shiv Chandan ,who works as an HR head in a private company in Cuttack, happily accepted the proposal. After the rituals, Shiv said, "I am quite happy to have Madhusmita in my life. She has a big heart," he said.
Madhusmita's father was a happy man, to see his daughter settled again. Naveen Nanda had unsuccessfully contested the assembly election in 2019 from Dhenkanal on a Congress ticket. He was earlier elected to the state assembly twice from Gondia and Dhenkanal assembly segments on BJD tickets.
