3 snatching incidents in 24 hrs; mobiles, cash looted
Chandigarh: Snatchers targeted three people and decamped with cash and mobile phones from different parts of the city over the past 24 hours. Based on the victims’ statements, police have registered cases and launched a probe. CCTV footage from areas near the crime scenes is being scanned to identify the accused.
In the first incident, complainant Ridhyansh Sharma, a resident of Sector 32, said he was returning home from the Japanese Garden in Sector 31 when a miscreant on a motorcycle approached from behind and snatched his iPhone 16 before speeding away. He alerted the police via Dial 112, following which a team from Sector 31 police station reached the spot, recorded his statement, and registered a case against an unidentified person.
In another case, Baljinder Singh, a resident of Baltana in Zirakpur, alleged that two miscreants stopped him at the vegetable market ground in Ramdarbar. One of them reportedly threatened him with a knife before fleeing with Rs 5,000 in cash. Sector 31 police have registered a case after recording his statement.
In a third incident, Imran, a resident of Burail (Sector 45), alleged that miscreants snatched his mobile phone and fled towards the forest area in Sector 46. Sector 34 police, however, said the complaint is being verified as the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of reporting the incident.
