AAP victory turns spotlight on Mohali mayoral race

Mohali: With the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) securing a clear majority in the Mohali Municipal Corporation elections, political attention has now shifted to the selection of the city’s next mayor. Names doing the rounds in the party are Sukhdev Singh Patwari, Sarabjit Singh Samana and Dr Sunny Singh Ahluwalia.

Patwari is viewed as a strong contender due to his seniority, experience and a strong public connect culminating his election into the MC for the fourth time. Political observers believe his extensive understanding of the civic administration, development issues and public concerns gives him an edge in the race for the mayoral post. Apart from his political career, Patwari has remained actively engaged in social and public life, raising issues related to public welfare and civic development.

Another name being discussed is that of Sarabjit Singh Samana, who has been elected as a councillor for the second consecutive term. He is the son of MLA Kulwant Singh and is considered an influential figure within the party.
Dr Sunny Singh Ahluwalia has also emerged as a contender after being elected to the MC for the first time.
While the final decision will be taken by the party leadership, discussions among party workers and residents suggest that experience, seniority and public outreach may play a significant role in determining the choice of Mayor.
