With assembly elections just four months away, and the Lok Sabha results reducing BJP's seat tally by 50% in the state, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini on Friday launched 'Happy Card', which offers 1,000km of free rides a year on state buses to all members of families with an annual income of up to Rs 1 lakh.

Called Haryana Antyodaya Parivar Parivahan Yojana (Happy), distribution of the cards began in Gurgaon and other parts of the state on Friday. "So far, Happy cards have been distributed among 59,708 beneficiaries," an official said. Saini said the card would benefit those who need to travel extensively for work. "There are 23 lakh families who would benefit," he added. The move follows similar ones by Congress govts in Karnataka & Telangana and AAP govt in Delhi. TNN
