Amritpal Singh case: Punjab police release 44 from preventive custody

Punjab Police on Friday said they have released 44 people taken into preventive custody during a crackdown on pro-Khalistan preacher Amritpal Singh and handed them over to their family. "In the larger interest of the public and keeping in view that youngsters should not suffer, Punjab Police have decided to release those persons who have a minimum role or were just following Amritpal Singh on religious sentiments only," said additional director general of police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla. Haryana Police Friday said it has stepped up vigil across the state and its personnel have been put on alert after radical preacher Amritpal Singh's last location was traced in the Kurukshetra district. However, the whereabouts of Amritpal and his associate Papalpreet Singh remain unknown. They were allegedly harboured by a woman at her home in Kurukshetra district's Shahabad on March 19. A senior Punjab police official on Thursday said, "As soon as we came to know that he has sneaked out of Punjab, we immediately alerted the other states."

11 aides of Amritpal produced in Baba Bakala court, sent to judicial custody

The police on Thursday produced 11 aides of fugitive Amritpal Sigh in Baba Bakala and Ajnala courts in different cases lodged against them in Khilchian and Ajnala police stations. Heavy security arrangements were made in both court complexes, the nearby areas and the roads leading to the court by the Punjab police and paramilitary forces. While the Baba Bakala court sent 11 persons on 14-day judicial remand, the Ajnala court sent 10 of them to two-day police remand.

Alert issued in Uttarakhand against Amritpal Singh

An alert has been issued in Dehradun, Haridwar, and Udhamsinghnagar districts of the Uttarakhand as a precaution in view of the possibility of pro-Khalisthan Amritpal Singh entering the state, the state's Director General of Police Ashok Kumar has said. "An alert has been issued in Dehradun, Haridwar, and Udhamsinghnagar districts of the state as a precaution in view of the possibility of pro-Khalisthan Amritpal Singh entering the state," the DGP told ANI. He said that the police conducting intensive checking on the borders of all three districts and in other areas.

Crackdown against Amritpal: 207 arrested so far, says IGP Sukhchain Gill

Punjab's Inspector General of Police (IGP), Headquarters, Sukhchain Singh Gill on Thursday said that a total of 207 persons have been arrested for disturbing peace and harmony in the state, of which, 30 have been found in substantive criminal activities, while, remaining are under preventive arrest.

"Police teams are doing thorough screening of all the arrested persons and soon they will be released from police custody," he said.

The IGP said that this operation was carried out on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann with an aim to save the innocent youth of Punjab from playing into the hands of Anti-National Forces.
