App to reduce passport verification to just 5 days
Chandigarh: Punjab governor and UT administrator Banwarilal Purohit on Friday launched an “mPassport Police App” at UT Secretariat, Sector-9, on Friday. The “mpassport Police App” was created by the ministry of external affairs (MEA) in 2019 and has been linked to Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) throughout the country. During the event, four essential police services were also digitised by the administrator. The “mPassport Police APP” is a unified platform for all passport verifications in UT Chandigarh and the process would be completed in just five days. Earlier, the verification process took around 15 days due to lots of paperwork. As many as 32 dedicated cops have been deployed with tablets in all 16 police stations for this purpose. Physical verification will be done through the devices by clicking photos of the applicant, uploading necessary documents online by the cops from the spot.The main aim and objective of the app is to provide passport related services to the Indian Citizens in a speedy, convenient and transparent manner. During the event, the UT administrator has also started four police services online. These newly started online services are character verification, employee verification, tenant verification and servant verification. Now all 15 police services to the citizens of the city have been completely digitised. Besides this, Purohit gave an insurance claim cheque of Rs 90 lakhs to the husband of woman constable Sarda , who died in the road accident at Manimajra in May. The victim’s husband is also from the UT police department, and the Cheque was given as per recently signed MoU between Chandigarh Police and HDFC Bank.
