district where its candidate Subhash Sudha defeated his rival Ashok Arora by mere 842 votes. Sudha secured 55,759 votes while Arora finished second with 54,917 votes.

BJP lost the Ladwa and Shahabad seats in Kurukshetra while won from Pehowa for the first time. In Ladwa, sitting MLA Pawan Saini of BJP lost to Congress’s Mewa Singh by 12,637 votes. Mewa got 57,665 votes while Saini secured 45,028 votes. Sapna Barshami of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) was at the third position with 15,513 votes.

In Pehowa, BJP fielded a Sikh face and former hockey Olympian Sandeep Singh who defeated Mandeep Singh Chatha of the Congress by a margin of 5,314 votes. Sandeep won 42,613 votes while Mandeep got 37,299 votes. BJP dissident Swami Sandeep Onkar, who contested as an independent with the support of INLD and Shiromani Akali Dal, got 21,775 votes to finish third.

Most humiliating defeat for BJP in Kurukshetra was from the Shahabad (reserved) constituency where its candidate and sitting minister Krishan Kumar Bedi lost to Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) nominee Ram Karan Kala by a huge margin of 37,127 votes. Ram Karan bagged 69,233 votes while Bedi could win only 32,106 votes. Anil Kumar Dhantori of the Congress was third with 18,844 votes.
