Legislative party leader set to be elected today

Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will elect the leader of the legislative party on Wednesday before it stakes claim to form the Haryana govt. The stage is set for a meeting of the legislative party at Panch Kamal l, the Haryana BJP office in Panchkula, on the eve of Nayab Singh Saini’s swearing-in as the new chief minister.Union home minister Amit Shah, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav and other senior leaders of the party’s national and state units shall be present in the meeting, which will see all the 48 newly elected BJP MLAs in attendance. Three independent MLAs have also pledged their support to BJP, taking their number to 51 in the 90-member Haryana assembly.Haryana BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli said, “Amit Shah, who has been appointed as observer for the meeting, shall oversee the proceedings.” During the BJP executive meeting in Panchkula, Badoli said Shah had exuded confidence about the party contesting the next assembly elections under the leadership of Nayab Singh Saini. Even during the poll rallies, he projected Saini as the party’s CM face. According to reports, all BJP MLAs have been asked to reach the venue at 10am. “After having breakfast and some light refreshments, the MLAs will attend the meeting, which is expected to start at 11am. Once the leader of the legislative party is formally elected, he, along with the MLAs, shall proceed towards the Haryana Raj Bhavan to intimate governor Bandaru Dattatreya about forming the govt,” Badoli said, following a meeting to discuss the arrangements for the legislative party meeting and the swearing-in at the Shalmiar Ground in Sector 5 of Panchkula on Thursday. “The time of meeting the governor depends on the duration of the legislative party meeting and the criteria to be adopted for the election of the legislative party leader. But soon after the declaration, the MLAs shall proceed towards the governor’s house,” another senior BJP leader said. Acccording to information, after the legislative party elects the leader, all the independent MLAs namely Savitri Jindal from Hisar, Devender Kadyan from Ganaur and Rajesh Joon from Bahadurgarh shall join the meeting for giving their consent letters before the elected leaders and MLAs proceed to the Raj Bhavan.“We have received the invite from BJP office. We have been asked to reach the guest house. From there, we shall be taken to the venue of the meeting,” Rajesh Joon, the MLA from Bahadurgarh, said. Jindal house also confirmed having the invite from BJP office and the presence of Savitri Jindal in Chandigarh during the various party meetings and other related programmes.
