paid resonant tributes to Shashi Kapoor at the Media Centre auditorium on Tuesday.

A two minute’s silence was also observed to mark the passing away of the “Adonis of Hindi cinema’, who created ripples through his acting and urbane charms making the women movie lovers to swoon in fantasy.

The occasion was marked by showing of his home production, “Junoon” marking the beginning of ‘alternative cinema’ in its own sense, directed by the iconic film director Shyam Benegal and cinematographed by Govind Nihalani.

The film, based on Ruskin Bond’s, “The Flight of Pigeons” depicted a slice from the 1857 mutiny by the Indians against the British. A renowned Punjabi litterateur, Dr Deepak Manmohan Singh was the chief guest. This was followed by a discussion as a critical appreciation of the film by the students, faculty and other functionaries of CAMS and EMRC.

According to professor Gurmeet Maan, the director of the Media Centre, Shashi Kapoor starrers, “Siddhartha”, based on the Nobel Laureate, Herman Hesse’s authored novel of the same name, “Jab Jab Phool Khile”, “Vastav” and some other movies will be showcased to dedicate the week to the departed soul.

His filmography and video songs, in which Shashi Kapoor enacted kept on resonating the centre in a loop form throughout the day.

With the demise of Shashi Kapoor, an era of Kapoor family with his two elder brothers, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor has ended, Prof Maan said.
