Centre set to ask ind agency to study impact on heritage

Chandigarh: Responding to the ongoing plea to expedite the “holistic development plan” of the Punjab and Haryana high court building, the union government has informed the HC that the Centre would take an immediate decision for obtaining a Heritage Impact Assessment Report from another independent agency.Additional solicitor general (ASG) of India, Satya Pal Jain, made this statement after the Chandigarh administration informed the court that the UT has obtained a Heritage Impact Assessment Report from the principal, College of Architecture, Chandigarh, and submitted it to the Central government and to the HC.The UT also submitted that the matter is now pending before the Central government and whatever decision is taken by it, it would be acceptable. During the hearing of the case on Tuesday, the Draft Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) Report on multi-level underground parking project in Capitol Complex, Chandigarh, and Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) on holistic development of Punjab and Haryana high court project, were also taken on record. Now, the matter has been adjourned for July 21 for further hearing. The matter is pending before the HC in the wake of a petition filed by Vinod Dhatterwal, secretary of the Punjab and Haryana high court Employees Association and others.
