) started a week-long internship programme for postgraduate students from University Institute of Legal studies, Panjab University and other universities at conference hall, Snehalaya, Maloya, Chandigarh.

The interactive session was held under the chairpersonship of Harjinder Kaur, chairperson, CCPCR, in which Mahavir Singh, member secretary, State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), Chandigarh, Sangita Vardhan, ex-officio member CCPCR-cum-chairperson, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Chandigarh, Chanchal Singh, Right To Education (RTE) consultant, CCPCR and Kartar Singh, law officer, CCPCR, also participated. The event saw participation from 53 students.

Harjinder Kaur briefed the interns about the working of commission and its activities. The interns were also told about child rights and how they could get involved in the activities of the commission.

Sangita Vardhan informed the gathering about child rescues and rehabilitation of children and the role of commission and CWC in it. Interns also raised questions related to the legal rights during child rescue.

Mahavir Singh of SLSA highlighted the various acts related to children i.e. POCSO, JJ and RTE Act and their effective implementation for the protection of children.

Chanchal Singh, RTE consultant, while talking about the challenges in education of children apprised the gathering about various initiatives of government under RTE Act. He also focused on the issue of economically weaker sections admissions and the gap between the middle and secondary school students.

The interns will be exploring various themes related to child protection like mental health, education and personal care during their stint.
