Chandigarh: Municipal corporation (MC), Chandigarh has finally issued letter of intent (LoI) to the 16 bidders, allotting from the 23 identified sites to sell coconuts. The remaining seven LoI will also be issued soon to the eligible bidders, as the process in this regard has already been initiated by the authority.
The process of the auctioning of these site was done through the e-auction. The bidders were given sufficient time to apply. The civic body authority had appointed two elected municipal councillors as observers.
According to information, as the one-year period of the current contract will end by June, the process of the e-auction of all feasible sites was started from April 25, so that by June, sites could be allotted to the new eligible and successful bidders.
Sources said earlier some sites were not suitable for the sale of the watermelons and coconuts due to their locations. This time round, the civic body authority has earmarked only suitable locations. After the allotment of the site, the enforcement department of the MC will keep any eye on the sellers for the proper adherence of rules and regulations during the sale.
The income from the site is a significant source of revenue for the MC, therefore the civic body authority has kept this particular segment in its budget and revenue generation segment.
