Educators’ conclave held to empower Punjab’s youth through commerce edu
Mohali: The ‘Commerce Educators’ Conclave 2026 – Career Udaan for Punjab’ was successfully organised on Tuesday at the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) auditorium in Mohali, under the joint aegis of the PSEB and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
The conclave witnessed enthusiastic participation from principals, lecturers and teachers associated with PSEB and was conducted under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between ICAI and PSEB on Dec 22, 2025.
Addressing the gathering, PSEB chairman Dr. Amarpal Singh, Chairman, PSEB, emphasised the importance of aligning commerce education with modern industry requirements and professional skill development. He remarked that the values of discipline, ethical financial practices and leadership had been deeply rooted in Punjab’s heritage since the time of the first Sikh Guru.
He stated that commerce was not merely an academic subject, but a way of life that developed discipline, management capabilities, financial awareness and decision-making skills among the students. He further stressed upon the need to equip students with practical knowledge and future-ready competencies to meet the evolving demands of the professional world.
Arpit Kabra, chairman, Career Counselling Committee, ICAI, expressed gratitude to the PSEB for the collaboration and highlighted ICAI’s major initiatives, including the ICAI Commerce Olympiad, ‘Project Saptarishi’ and ‘Project Vanijya’, which aim to strengthen commerce education and create awareness about professional opportunities among the students.
He shared that ‘Project Vanijya’ focused on introducing commerce education from Class VI onwards to build a strong foundational understanding of commerce at an early stage. He added that ‘Project Saptarishi’ would focus on train-the-trainer programmes, career counselling, reading rooms and skill-based training designed to empower the educators and the students with future-ready skills.
Kabra added that the collaboration between ICAI and PSEB would provide structured guidance, enhanced awareness and improved career opportunities for the youth of Punjab.
During the programme, Dinesh Sharma, coordinator and speaker, addressed the participants on the importance of commerce education, the scope of the chartered accountancy (CA) profession and various career opportunities available through the CA course.
Sahil Garg, chairman, Chandigarh branch; and Vikas Goyal, chairman, Ludhiana branch; jointly stated that such initiatives would play a significant role in empowering educators and strengthening commerce education across Punjab.
The programme was jointly hosted by the Chandigarh and Ludhiana branches under the guidance of the career counselling committee, ICAI. Members of the managing committees of both branches were also present on the occasion.
The conclave marked the first in a series of sub-sessions planned across Punjab under the ICAI-PSEB MoU to enhance awareness about commerce education and professional career opportunities among educators and students.
The organisers stated that the ]Commerce Educators’ Conclave 2026 – Career Udaan for Punjab’ was highly successful and represented an important step towards empowering teachers, lecturers and principals across the state. They added that similar awareness and knowledge-sharing initiatives would continue in collaboration with the PSEB in the future for the benefit of students and educators alike.
During the session, educators were also acquainted with the evolving landscape of accountancy, finance and professional education, enabling them to guide students more effectively towards future-ready career opportunities.
