Chandigarh: The Punjab vigilance bureau on Monday arrested a retired assistant municipal engineer for defective construction of a stadium in and embezzlement of public funds. Ranbir Singh was arrested from Banga in Nawanshahr district and has been remanded to one day police custody.
The bureau has also constituted teams to arrest contractor Rakwinder Kumar and retired junior engineer Vijay Kumar. The action followed a complaint by Munish Bhardwaj, a resident of Sheetla Mandir Colony in Banga, who alleged discrepancies in the construction of a mini stadium. The samples collected from the stadium and tested at the Institute of Irrigation and Research in Amritsar revealed that the quantity of material used for the construction was less than the specified ratio. tnn
