Fire breaks out in car showroom

CHANDIGARH: A fire broke out in an automobile showroom in Industrial Area, Phase I, on Sunday evening, destroying eight to 10 cars kept for repair and servicing and damaging office and record room.

Sources said the fire that first broke out in a tin shed under which cars were parked was controlled in over one-and-a-half hours but thick smoke engulfed the area.

"The workshop was closed owing to evening hours. The fire broke out in a vehicle probably due to sparking and spread to others," said an official. Dalip, station fire officer who led the operation, said, "After the fire broke out, the shed collapsed. This made the rescue operation difficult."

Five fire tenders and water boozer rushed to the spot. Over two dozen firemen from different fire stations took part in the operation. They were helped by cops of Industrial Area, Phase I. TNN
