CHANDIGARH: Former deputy chief minister and sitting Congress MP from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, has alleged that jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria threatened to kill his son — raising serious concerns over the breakdown of law and order under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab.
Randhawa who is currently attending the Parliament session in Delhi revealed on X , that his son was targeted just an hour after meeting one of his associates. “One of my associates met my son, and within one hour of leaving, he was fired upon. I’m in Delhi for Parliament – no gangster can shake me!” he said defiantly.
Randhawa further stated that his son received a video call from Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, currently lodged in an Assam jail, followed by multiple death threats.
He claimed that while Delhi Police responded promptly, Punjab Police failed to even send a constable, exposing what he called a complete collapse of governance.
“Earlier, we fought terrorists and never got scared. I’m not scared now either. But it is shocking that my constituency, Gurdaspur, is being turned into a gangster base, and the state government is watching silently,” he said.
Randhawa accused chief minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal of turning Punjab into a "gangster’s paradise," where criminals act with impunity—even from inside jails.
Reacting to the threats, Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, came out strongly in Randhawa’s support and lashed out at the AAP regime.
“A jailed gangster is threatening a sitting MP, a former deputy CM. If this isn’t state failure, what is? If elected representatives are unsafe, what hope does the common citizen have? Is this the ‘badlav’ AAP promised—rule of gangsters and fear for the public.
