Haryana police busts wedding fraudsters in Nuh, Rs 14 crore swindled Nuh police arrests Maulana Arshad and Rashid for marriage fraud
Chandigarh: The Haryana Police on Thursday made a breakthrough by apprehending Maulana Arshad, resident of Bubalheri and Rashid, resident of Palwal district, who were cheating people and extorting money in the name of giving Kanyadaan (girl's contribution to the wedding) in the marriages of their daughters. The accused have stolen around Rs 14 crore by defrauding 1400 people in the name of Kanyadaan.
The Scheme Unveiled
Investigations reveal that the accused orchestrated their scam using different packages, enticing victims with marriage packages ranging from Rs 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh. These packages supposedly included a Splendor motorcycle, complete wedding paraphernalia, and Rs 21,000 in cash as part of the Kanyadaan ritual.
A Victim's Account
Zubeida, a resident of Nangal Shahpur in Tehsil Nagina, lodged a complaint on April 1, 2024, detailing how Maulana Arshad, Rashid, and their cohorts had defrauded her. Approximately two months prior, they had extracted Rs 1 lakh 10 thousand from her, promising the aforementioned package for her daughter's wedding.
Police Action
Acting swiftly, a case was registered against the accused at Nagina police station under relevant sections of the law. A team led by Inspector Ratan Singh, alongside the station manager, apprehended Rashid from Badkali Chowk Nagina and Maulana Arshad from Bubalhedi village, based on secret information.
Confession and Remand
During initial interrogation, both accused, assisted by their accomplices, confessed to swindling Rs 14 crore from about 1400 victims under the pretense of arranging Kanyadaan for their daughters' weddings. Subsequently, both were presented in court and remanded into police custody for four days. Intensive interrogation is underway to uncover further details in this case
