Hawara was produced at a

Kharar court

via video conferencing from

Tihar jail

. The next hearing is scheduled for November 19.

Hawara, a

Babbar Khalsa

militant, was convicted as a conspirator in the killing of the 12th CM of

Punjab Beant Singh

. He is serving the life term at Tihar jail in Delhi.

He also was accused of killing a special police officer Sunil Kumar at Shaheedi Jor Mela at Chamkaur Sahib on December 21, 1992. However, he was acquitted of the charge in February 2017.

Jaspal Singh Manjpur, the counsel for Hawara, said, “We were surprised that Jagtar Singh Hawra has been arrested via video conferencing in a 15-year-old case in which the police had already submitted in the court in 2017 that they have no case pending against Hawara.”

Manjpur said they would challenge the arrest orders and now also seek shifting of Hawara from Tihar jail to any of the jails in Punjab, as the jurisdiction of this case is Punjab.

The regular hearing in this case will be undertaken in the Mohali district court.
