Hitting the home run: GMADA’s 50th affordable project takes root in Sector 114
Mohali: The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has moved forward with another affordable housing initiative, marking its 50th such project in the region. The authority has issued a revised layout plan for the development of an affordable residential plotted colony spread across 25 acres in Sector 114, village Kailon, Tehsil Mohali. The project, named "White City," is being developed by a private firm, said the GMADA officers.A public notice regarding the revised layout has already been issued by GMADA, inviting attention from prospective buyers and stakeholders.Mohali has witnessed a steady rise in affordable residential developments over the years, driven by both GMADA and private developers. Key areas such as Kharar, Banur, and sectors including 74-A, 115, and 116 have emerged as hubs for such projects. At present, the city has over 50 affordable residential colonies and close to 1,000 plots approved by the authority.GMADA chief administrator Sakshi Sawhney stated that the Punjab govt is actively promoting affordable housing schemes to ensure wider access to home ownership. She said these initiatives are aimed at enabling individuals from lower- and middle-income groups to own residential property at reasonable costs. She further noted that GMADA has already developed 50 affordable plotted colonies across multiple sectors.Affordable housing options in Mohali include both plotted developments and group housing projects. Notable locations offering such options include Green Residency (Kharar), RBC Group Happy Home (Sector 115), Lok Awas (Sector 74-A ) and Khanpur. These projects range from gated plotted communities to group housing schemes, including developments such as Wave Estate Group Housing and various Economically Weaker Section (EWS) initiatives undertaken by GMADA.In terms of pricing, affordable apartments in Mohali are generally available in the range of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 45 lakh, while plotted developments may be priced lower depending on size and location. Authorities have advised buyers to verify project approvals before investing, recommending preference for GMADA-approved colonies in sectors such as 78, 79, 80, 88, and 89 to ensure legal compliance and secure transactions.MSID:: 129847959 413 |
