HSGMC seeks fair probe in espionage case involving Kaithal youth

Kaithal: The members of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) met the superintendent of police (SP) on Wednesday and sought a fair investigation into the alleged espionage case involving Devender Singh.The 25-year-old was arrested from Mastgarh village in Kaithal district on charges of spying for Pakistan. His family met the representatives of the HSGMC, which formed a five-member committee, including Sardar Major Singh Guhla, Balwinder Singh Kangthali, Karnail Singh, and Gurnam Singh, to take up the matter with the authorities concerned.Interacting with the mediapersons, HSGMC member Jagdish Singh Jhinda said a few days ago, Devender's family approached them seeking justice. Following this, around 100 members of the HSGMC held a meeting and discussed the case. The family insisted their child was innocent. The committee members then decided to meet the SP and sought a fair investigation.The family emphasised that Devender should not be maltreated. If he did something wrong, he would face the consequences. The committee also appointed a lawyer to handle Devender's legal defence, Jhinda added.He further said no member of the committee would put pressure on the administration, but they would not allow any injustice to Devender.Jhinda mentioned that young individuals sometimes make mistakes, and the family faces trouble. Devender may have made mistakes unknowingly. He was unaware of the identity of the people he was in contact with and got trapped in their web. He had no intention of acting against the country. He was misled in the name of love and exploited for information. The committee has full faith in the legal system and believes that the case must be investigated fairly, he added.SP Astha Modi assured the members of appropriate action.Talking to TOI, the SP said the police had obtained Devender's remand till May 23. Police recovered 300 GB of data from his electronic devices, but details can't be shared at this moment.
