JJP names 5 LS poll candidates, 1 for Karnal assembly bypoll

Chandigarh: Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) on Monday released final list of remaining five candidates for the Lok Sabha elections and one candidate for Karnal assembly by poll.

Kiran Punia is fielded from Amabala (reserved), Palaram Saini from Kurukshetra, Devender Kadyan from Karnal, Bhupinder Malik from Sonepat and Ravinder Sangwan from Rohtak. JJP has also announced Rajinder Madana alias Rama Madan as party nominee for bypoll from Karnal assembly seat that had fallen vacant on account of resignation by former Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar. Madan will be facing state chief minister Nayab Singh Saini in the bypoll.

On April 16, the party had nominated five candidates, including former deputy CM, Dushyant Chautala’s mother Naina Chautala from Hisar, Ramesh Khatak from Sirsa, Rao Bahadur Singh from Bhiwani-Mahendergarh, Rahul Fazilpuria from Gurgaon and Nalin Hooda from Faridabad Lok Sabha seat.

Among those nominated on Monday, Kiran Poonia is a professor in Hindi at DAV College, Ambala. She is the daughter-in-law of former minister Kripa Ram Poonia. Party’s Kurukshetra nominee, Palaram Saini, is party’s vice-president of Urban Local Bodies Cell. He is a social worker and runs a private school. Karnal nominee Devender Kadyan is the son of former speaker of Haryana state assembly Satbir Singh Kadyan. He had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 state assembly election from Panipat Rural on the JJP ticket.

Bhupinder Malik, who has been fielded from Sonepat seat, had also unsuccessfully contested as JJP nominee in state assembly polls from Baroda seat. He had also served as the president of the municipal council Gohana. Rohtak nominee Ravinder Sangwan is state president of JJP’s youth wing and has been active in state’s politics since 2006.
