NIILM University chancellor Maninder Singh Naiyar, registrar Rajeev Dahiya, controller of examination Baljit Singh Chahal, dean research Surender Kumar Vasisth and Chitra Mudgil have been booked under the SC/ST (prevention of atrocities) Act, and sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 504 (whoever intentionally insults and thereby gives provocation to any person), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 294 (does any obscene act in any public place), said the police. A case has been registered against the university officials on the complaint of former registrar and assistant professor Vikasdeep Kohli, they said.

Kohli told the police that the accused hatched a conspiracy against him and forced him to resign from the post of registrar.

"I was serving as an assistant professor at the law department and was holding the charge of the registrar. The accused cancelled my pre-submission of the PHD under a conspiracy and used derogatory remarks as well," he alleged.

However, Maninder Naiyar told the TOI that Kohli was "misusing" his contacts and the SC/ST category. "All the allegations levelled by him are baseless and soon everything will be clear," he said. Kaithal superintendent of police Maqsood Ahmed said a case had been registered against the accused and a probe had been initiated. A deputy superintendent of police has been appointed to investigate the matter and inquiry is underway, he added.
