Landless farmer ends life after losing buffalo
SANGRUR: In yet another tragic incident of farm suicide that screams loudest about the plight of landless farmers in the state, a farmer under a debt of meagre Rs 40,000 took his life in a
Sukha had borrowed money from fellow villagers and was under stress for not being able to return the amount. What further precipitated the crisis was the death of his buffalo which was his only source of income after he was forced to sell his two acres of land a few years back.
Police said a case under Section (unnatural death) 174 of CrPC had been registered. Ramesh Bhardwaj, investigating officer (IO) from Lehragaga police station, said, “It maybe the first suicide in Adakwas. The victim was under some stress. He is survived by his son and his body has been handed over to the family after the postmortem.”
