Minor kidnapping case: Ex-Delhi cop arrested, victim rescued
Panchkula: Police have arrested a former Delhi Police constable in connection with the kidnapping of a minor boy, who was later rescued safely. The accused has been identified as Ravindra Kumar Yadav, a resident of Rajasthan.
Yadav allegedly kidnapped a 14-year-old boy using a stolen car fitted with a fake number plate. Police suspect ransom to be the possible motive behind the crime. The child was recovered from Ramgarh within hours and later reunited with his family.
A case has been registered at Sector-7 police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.
According to the police, the incident came to light around 3.30am on May 10, when an autorickshaw driver alerted Dial-112 after witnessing a man forcibly pushing a minor into a white car near Majri Chowk. The complainant said the boy was shouting and resisting, which raised suspicion among passersby. Before anyone could intervene, the accused fled with the child.
Acting swiftly on the input, police launched an operation and tracked down the accused in Ramgarh within hours. During interrogation, it emerged that Yadav had joined Delhi Police as a constable in 2010 and was dismissed from service in 2023.
Investigators also found that the Hyundai Aura used in the crime bore a fake registration number. Verification revealed that the vehicle originally belonged to Rajasthan and had been stolen from Jaipur, where a separate theft case had already been registered.
ACP Vikram Nehra said the accused had carefully planned the kidnapping and used fake number plates to evade identification. Police recovered pepper spray and other suspicious items from the vehicle, indicating that further disclosures could emerge during questioning.
The kidnapped boy belongs to a Punjab-based family currently residing in Panchkula. The accused was produced before a court and remanded to three days of police custody for further interrogation, including his possible involvement in other criminal cases.
