CHANDIGARH: Online fraudsters cheated the wife of Olympian Milkha Singh of Rs 1 lakh on Friday.
Nirmal Kaur, a resident of Sector 8, said in her police complaint, “I had recently bought a foreign breed dog. As I wanted to get it registered, I asked my supervisor to find out the dog registration department contact number. The supervisor searched on Google and noted down a phone number from a website. When we called up on the number, a man informed us about the dog registration process.”
The man took all details of her ATM card and asked her to do a transaction of Rs 10. “He then sent on my cellphone a One Time Password (OTP) and asked me to share it with him. As soon as I did so, Rs 99,900 were withdrawn from my Citibank account. He again sent an OTP on my cellphone. Saying that the money would be redeposited to my account, he asked me to share that too with him. But I did not.”
Nirmal then asked the bank officials to block her account.
After she lodged a complaint at SSP public window, it was forwarded to the cyber cell.
A cyber cell cop said, “We are verifying the swindler’s phone number and the account in which money was transferred.”
