CHANDIGARH:
Hisar district court
on Monday convicted parents and uncle of a 13-year-old girl for her
honour killing at
Sulkhani village
in 2015. Additional sessions judge
Purushottam Kumar
announced life imprisonment for girl's father Ramchander, mother Sarabati and uncle Raja.
It was alleged that the parents of Nirmala, a student of Class IX, suspected her character and had allegedly strangulated her when she was sleeping on July 30, 2015. To escape suspicion, they cremated her body on the same night. However, the villagers saw the burning pyre and got suspicious. Police got involved in the case after village chowkidar (watchman) Ved Prakash informed them about the incident.
Later, a police team from Barwala town had collected samples from the girl's pyre to send them for lab testing. A case of murder was registered against the victim's parents and uncle. All three accused were arrested in the case. Police had claimed that during interrogation, the girl's father had admitted to strangulating her and then deciding to cremate her.
