Plea filed to allow dera chief to deliver ‘pravachan’ from jail

CHANDIGARH: Seeking directions to make arrangement for broadcasting of ‘pravachan’ (religious discourse) of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh from Rohtak jail, a petition has been filed before the Punjab and Haryana high court.

The petition, filed by Malwa Insan Followers Dera Sacha Sauda Association, through its president

of Bathinda district, would come up for hearing on January 24.

The petitioner association has sought that directions be issued to the Haryana government and the state prison authorities to make arrangement for broadcasting through recorded/live/internet the message (pravachan) of rape convict Gurmeet. Further directions have also been sought for proper arrangement for enchanters/devotees of Dera Sacha Sauda at

to watch this through satellite or internet mode weekly or fortnightly or monthly basis. It has also been prayed to issue writ of mandamus direction to make proper arrangement for broadcasting of ‘pravachan’ to save the belief of devotes of Dera Sacha Sauda in view of the Article 51A(d) of Constitution of India as well as declaration by United Nations on basic principles for the treatment of prisoners adopted and proclaimed by general assembly resolution 45/111of 14 December 1990.

Gurmeet is at present confined at

Sunaria jail

in Rohtak district after he was sentenced to 20-years imprisonment by special CBI judge in rape cases. He was convicted on August 25, 2017.
