MOHALI: Sleuths of the income tax (I-T) department searched the premises of a few Akali leaders in Mohali and Chandigarh in an alleged episode of throwing Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 currency notes in the air during a marriage reception party of one of the Akali leaders' son. when famous Punjabi singer Gurdas Mann started singing in the party.
Sources in the I-T department said they suspect currency worth Rs 5 lakh was thrown in the air. The I-T sleuths also recovered some unaccounted-for cash from the premises of few Akali members.
The action comes a day after a complaint was lodged with the IT department in which a video that showed Akali leaders throwing currency notes in the air to celebrate the wedding was submitted. I-T sleuths reached the sites in Kharar, Mohali and Chandigarh at 7am. The search continued till the filing of the news report.
Builder raidedOn the other hand, the income tax department conducted a search at the office of Oxford Street builder on the Zirakpur-Ambala highway on Thursday morning. According to sources, the sleuths reached the office at 5am.
During the investigation, CRPF personnel were made to guard the premises. The I-T sleuths recovered some documents, laptops, pen drives, hard disks and other storage material.
