SIR drive from June 15; month-long voter enumeration begins
Chandigarh: The UT will launch a month-long voter enumeration drive from June 15 to July 14 under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the photo electoral roll with July 1, 2026 as the reference date.
Chief electoral officer Prerna Puri Thursday said Chandigarh has 5,16,427 registered voters and preparations for the exercise are complete, with enumeration forms printed and ready for distribution. Officials, including EROs, AEROs, BLOs, BLAs and supervisors, have been trained.
BLOs will undertake door-to-door visits to distribute and collect forms, providing two copies to each voter along with assistance. In locked houses, forms will be left and at least three follow-up visits made.
Forms can also be submitted online via the ECINet mobile app or Voters’ Service Portal, with subsequent BLO verification.
Voters have been asked to provide mapping details from the 2002-03 revision; if unavailable, they may submit details of parents or grandparents listed earlier or during the 2025-26 SIR. Officials clarified that inability to furnish such details will not lead to exclusion from the draft roll.
The CEO urged eligible but unregistered residents to apply using Form-6; these will be processed during the claims and objections phase after publication of the draft roll.
Political parties and BLAs have been asked to assist in enrolment and flag ineligible entries, including deceased, shifted or duplicate voters.
The department has sought wider participation from RWAs, institutions and citizens. A 24x7 helpline (1950), ECINet’s “Book a Call” facility, and help desks across the city will assist voters during the exercise.
