State health award for city doctor
Ludhiana: City-based Dr Manoj K Sobti — senior consultant neurosurgeon and member of Punjab Medical Council (PMC) — was honoured by Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar for his services in the field of neurosurgery, welfare of suffering humanity, and exemplary contribution towards the medical fraternity. He was presented the Double Helical
Dr Sobti started neurosurgery way back in 1991, and made neurosciences popular in this region. He is the first neurosurgeon to have started Minimal Invasive Stereotactic Neurosurgery in 1996 in northern India, when he was working as head of the Neurosurgery department at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). He was also president of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Punjab, and is very active in its functioning.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sobti said trauma management system was still in a primitive state in India with an appalling lack of pre-hospital care, inadequate provision of facilities for transport of victims, and inefficient emergency and casualty services that are unable to effectively handle traumatic brain injuries. He also said concerted efforts were required for effective and sustainable prevention and management of critical injuries in India.
