CHANDIGARH: Expressing displeasure over the failure of the authorities in Punjab and Haryana in submitting details regarding the investigation of cases against sitting and former MPs/MLAs of the region, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday gave the officials concerned a last opportunity before imposing heavy cost on them.

“This is a fit case where heavy cost should be imposed upon the respondents. But keeping in view the fact that the last opportunity has been prayed for, we adjourn the case for September 29. The needful be now done within a period of one week. It is made clear that if the affidavit/status report is not filed within the time stipulated, heavy cost would be imposed upon the official responsible to file the affidavit/status report to be recovered from his/her salary,” the HC ordered.

A division bench comprising Justice Augustine George Masih and Justice Alok Jain of the HC passed these orders while hearing an ongoing petition related to cases pending against sitting and former MPs/MLAs in Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh.
