CHENNAI: A special court to deal with Explosives Act cases has acquitted two accused from

Madurai

who were arrested by the Q branch police after explosives were seized from Piranmalai hills in Sivaganga in 2015.

Police arrested S

Abbas Mydeen

(40) and

M Mubarak

(21) of Melur, Madurai and later included

M Mohammed Mubarak

of Theppakulam in Madurai too in the chargesheet. The prosecution said a person running a

Tasmac

bar in Sivaganga town had asked the local mosque authorities to reduce volume of speakers which led to a duel between the groups.

The prosecution contended that the accused had planned to blow up the bar after a dead pig was found in the mosque.

The two main accused had approached the third accused to make the bomb and had planted the bag with explosives on January 1, 2015 at the Tasmac bar. Acted on a tip police defused the bomb and arrested the accused. S Abbas Mydeen died during the trial. The court held not enough proof was provided to substantiate prosecution’s claims and acquitted the other two arrested people.
