CHENNAI: A third year medical student of ESI Medical College in Kodambakkam leaped to her death from the 10th floor of an apartment complex in Ashok Nagar. Police have recovered a suicide note.
The student, 22-year-old Nithyashree, stayed with her elder sister and parents at a high-rise apartment building in Ashok Nagar. Nithyashree's father Ram Subbu, 64, worked as an assistant general manager in Southern Railway and is now with Chennai Metro Rail Limited as an advisor.
On Wednesday, Nithyashree walked out of her flat and leapt off the 10th floor. A security guard rushed to the spot after hearing a thud and found the woman lying dead. Upon information, the Ashok Nagar police recovered the body and sent it to a government hospital for postmortem. They said that they are investigating to find the reason why the girl ended her life.
The woman had not blamed anyone for her death in the suicide note.
Meanwhile, At Otteri, a man who had been asked to appear at the local police station, died in front of the building. Shankar, 49, of Nedunkundram, a house painter, was involved in an altercation with the administration of a temple at Kolapakkam. After the temple authorities lodged a complaint, police asked Shankar to appear before them.
Police said that as he was about to enter the police station, he told them that the temple authorities had lodged a fake complaint, so he was going to kill himself. Suddenly, he fell unconscious there. He was rushed to a government hospital where he died on Wednesday morning. Police have registered a case and an investigation is on.
