AIADMK single leadership issue: No need for police permission for party event in private hall, Avadi police commissioner says
CHENNAI: Avadi police commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore on Wednesday said police would provide security to the AIADMK general council and executive committee meetings -- scheduled to be held at Vanagaram on Thursday -- as per the directions of the Madras high court. However, he said there is no need for police permission for the meetings as they are going to be held in a private hall.
On Tuesday, AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam filed a petition with the Avadi commissionerate urging it not to give permission to the conduct of the general council and executive committee meetings. He filed the petition as there is a growing demand for having a single leadership in the party. The supporters of AIADMK joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami want him to be the party chief. The party meetings might adopt a resolution for a single leadership in the party.
Rathore said police can’t intervene as the meetings are going to be held in a private place and there was no need for police permission.
The Madras high court on Tuesday directed the police authorities to consider the plea for police protection to the AIADMK’s general council and executive committee meetings.
