All TN govt school teachers will be free from data entry tasks soon: Minister
COIMBATORE: As many as 6,300 people have been appointed to manage data entry for the Educational Management Information System (EMIS) in Tamil Nadu, said minister for school education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in Coimbatore on Monday.
The EMIS portal, introduced in 2018, stores information about schools, teachers, and students in government, aided and private schools.
The minister said measures were being taken to reduce the workload of govt school teachers. "Currently, 6,300 workers have been appointed to handle EMIS data entry tasks, which were previously carried out by teachers. Another 1,000 workers will be recruited soon. Once these positions are filled, teachers will no longer have to manage EMIS tasks," he told reporters in Coimbatore.
Earlier, the minister inaugurated renovated buildings with modern infrastructure and amenities at the Kavundampalayam Corporation Middle School, funded by the Martin Group at a cost of Rs 7 crore.
Speaking at the event, the minister said, "Donations totalling more than Rs 380 crore have been received through the Namma School – Namma Ooru Palli scheme, with ongoing projects worth Rs 260 crore. This initiative, launched by chief minister MK Stalin in 2022, aims at developing infrastructure in all government schools. The chief minister contributed Rs 5 lakh from his personal funds to support the scheme."
Over the past three years, Rs 7,500 crore has been allocated under the Perasiriyar Anbazhagan School Development Scheme. Approximately 14,109 classrooms had been identified for upgrades and 7,856 new classrooms had been constructed and inaugurated at a cost of Rs 2,467 crore, he added.
In Coimbatore district alone, 678 projects are under way in 311 schools at a cost of Rs 19.89 crore. "I am grateful to all the companies that provided CSR funding for this," the minister said.
