CHENNAI: Avadi police commissioner K Shankar went on night rounds to check the patrol system in place on Sunday night.

He inspected the preparedness of police personnel who were on night patrol.

The commissioner began his rounds around 12.30am on Monday at Ambattur bus stand. He inspected vehicle checking points at Kallikuppam, Red Hills bus stand, Alamaram, Manjampakkam, Dairy, 400 feet road, Sathyamurthi Nagar, the road connecting MFL and Minjur 400 feet road, Korattur, Red Hills and Padi.

Apart from routine vehicle checks, he asked the police personnel to intensify vigil against drunken driving. For those who travelled late night, their purpose of travel was also verified.

The police commissioner said that the purpose of the night rounds was to ensure that the officers on night duty were at the job. He inspected the vehicle checking points and checked the functioning of CCTV cameras in areas falling under the Avadi commissionerate.

Shankar said that they would review the night rounds and improvise the system. The police personnel were also instructed to find out the roads which need better illumination. The Commissioner said he would undertake such surprise visits at night every month.
