CM unveils statue of Rabindranath Tagore

Chennai: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Friday unveiled a life-size statue of Rabindranath Tagore at Queen Mary’s College opposite the Marina Beach.Stalin said it has been the state government’s policy to honour those who had made significant contributions to Tamil language, culture, social justice and fine arts.In extension of this policy, the government had announced in 2021-22 that a statue would be erected in memory of Rabindranath Tagore on the QMC campus.Recalling the greatness of Tagore, the chief minister said Gurudev, as Tagore is fondly called, was the recipient of Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 for his Gitanjali. State ministers K N Nehru, K Ponmudy, E V Velu, M P Swaminathan, R S Rajakannappan, Ma Subramanian and P K Sekar Babu attended the function.
