Granting the relief, Justice A D Jagadish Chandira directed the accused, M Vignesh, to appear before the Sathuvachari police station in Vellore daily until further orders.

When the plea came up for hearing, the prosecution opposed the application on the ground that he stabbed a govt doctor while he was on duty. Counsel for Vignesh submitted that the accused attacked the doctor because he was upset over the treatment provided to his mother in the hospital.

Recording the submissions, the judge asked the prosecution whether any FIR was registered against the doctor on the allegation of insufficient treatment provided to his mother.

As the prosecution failed to explain the action taken against the doctor, the court allowed the application.

On Nov 14, Dr Balaji Jaganathan was attacked by Vignesh, who was caught by hospital staff while attempting to flee. The automobile engineering diploma holder was later remanded in judicial custody. According to the prosecution, his mother, Prema Manoharan, was an advanced-stage cancer patient who received six rounds of chemotherapy and palliative care in the hospital.
